GP website publication scan

Every 2 weeks on Premium; manual free check without an account

Checks a GP practice website against 23 core content checks aligned with themes from NHS England guidance and the GP website benchmarking tool: top patient tasks (appointments, prescriptions, sick notes, test results), practice information, complaints and patient voice, online access, and legal and policy pages. The same run inventories published policies with freshness signals, estimates reading age against the NHS 9 to 11 target, runs automated WCAG 2.2 spot checks, and samples link health.

How this scan is structured: One scan only: 23 core content checks, published policy inventory, reading-age analysis, automated accessibility spot checks, and link health in the same run (not separate products).

What it does

A polite crawl reads the publicly linked pages and documents, an AI review adds practice-manager findings grounded in that crawl evidence only, and a real-browser verification pass confirms findings and captures screenshots on mobile and desktop. The browser pass also estimates the reading age of key patient pages against the NHS target of ages 9 to 11, runs automated WCAG 2.2 spot checks (automated checks catch only part of accessibility issues), notes accessibility overlay widgets, samples internal links for confirmed errors, and flags outdated references such as Public Health England, CCGs, or the Data Protection Act 1998. Findings are factual observations from followed live links, never legal non-compliance or CQC failure claims.

What the scan covers

Focused on England GP public websites: 23 core content checks aligned with themes from NHS England guidance and the GP website benchmarking tool, grouped into five areas, plus readability, accessibility, and freshness checks from the same run. Exact checklist items can evolve as the product matures.

  • Patient tasks: appointments, repeat prescriptions, sick notes, test results, registration, contact details, opening hours
  • Practice information: staff and roles, services, disabled access, named GP for patients aged 75 and over
  • Patient voice and rights: complaints how-to, Friends and Family Test, patient rights, records access, violence and abuse information
  • Online access: online consultation route and homepage links to NHS self-care and You and Your General Practice
  • Legal and policy pages: privacy notice, cookies, accessibility statement, CQC rating display
  • Published policy pages/PDFs and stated review dates
  • Reading-age estimates for key patient pages against the NHS 9 to 11 target
  • Automated WCAG 2.2 spot checks (automated checks catch only part of accessibility issues)
  • Accessibility overlay widget observations
  • Internal link health, with errors confirmed before they are reported
  • Outdated references (Public Health England, CCGs, Data Protection Act 1998, and similar)

Some checks reflect dated expectations in NHS England and GP contract guidance: an online consultation route available during core hours is a contractual expectation stated from 1 October 2025, a homepage link to "You and Your General Practice" is expected from October 2025, and a named GP for patients aged 75 and over has been an expectation since 2014.

Example layouts above are illustrative. Live reports use your practice's public website only and are emailed to you with a report link you can forward to your website supplier. Findings are not legal conclusions and not CQC outcomes.
